Project Brief
The proposal for a digital library and Exhibition center for 3D Art was based on a shortage of modern library facilities for the visually challenged in Lagos, Nigeria. The original structure is central to the Yaba community and has previously served as a school and a church.
The proposed structure consists of the ground floor and three upper levels. The first level constitutes a traditional arrangement of shelves for Braille books and borrowing while the second level incorporates digital facilities with side listening booths. Lastly the third level is an exhibition space for oversized 3D art pieces distributed on moveable partitions. To simplify navigation for the target users, a linear spatial system was employed on all floors.
